Overweight as evolution into growth-driven portfolio franchise accelerates next year.
Increased conviction due to: 1) low penetration of iPods, 2) further evidence of the “halo effect”, 3) expected new product introductions and 4) retail store expansion still in early growth stage. We’re raising our estimates to better account for recent margin performance as well as roughly 50% of the upside that we view likely (due to C06 new product introductions).

Statistically significant survey of 2,500 US consumers: Just 8% of US households surveyed own an iPod; 5% own a Mac. Given low penetration and continued signs of the iPod “halo effect”, people think meaningful US retail growth opportunities still exist. If people benchmark similar US retail store strategies, Apple stores could grow from 135+ today to 300+ over the next several years.

A recent survey points to a shift in demand towards iPod video and incremental interest for new forms of digital content (beyond just the iPod customerbase). A majority of industry experts don’t expect Apple computers to sit still as others take advantage of these opportunities.

The consumer technology shift away from home office and into the living room is one of our three core theses for 2006 (see our industry note published yesterday, titled “Technology Innovation Drives Positive Bias: AAPL, EMC and Dell Top Picks”). Industry analyst’s thinks Apple is hands down the best positioned to capitalize — from an ease of use, industrial design and digital content perspective. After pulling together data points from Apple headquarters and a statistically significant survey of 2,500 US consumers, it is being believe market share and new product opportunities accelerate even more than we expected in 2006. Many rating companies maintain Overweight on AAPL shares and increase our price target to $90 (from $70).

Experts continue to believe demand outstrips supply for iPods and that Apple is doing the best it can to supply both its own and traditional retail stores. The US consumers we surveyed plan to buy more iPod and related products than any other electronics category. To hone in on this point, more people plan to buy an iPod this holiday season than a cell phone. Also interesting, more people plan to buy iTunes gift cards this season than non-iPod branded MP3 players. What’s more, of those planning to purchase an iPod (either as a gift or for themselves) this holiday season, only a small percentage would purchase another brand of MP3 player if a store was out of their desired model. Importantly, none of the current iPod or MP3 owners surveyed would switch to another brand if their desired iPod was sold out. Experts believe this speaks wonders on iPod brand loyalty and ultimately ties consumers into an expanding portfolio of Apple products.

Interestingly, the iPod installed base appears set to skew towards the higher function iPod video. Demand for non-Music digital content also expands beyond just the iPod customer base. Experts believe this provides evidence that management of digital content in the living room is important to consumers and could drive incremental demand this coming year.

Use of MP3 files causes deep concern to record industry

The international music industry is deeply concerned about the fast growth of MPEG audio layer 3 (MP3) technology. The major international record companies are worried by the number of websites distributing both unauthorized and authorized MP3 files of sound recordings and by the growing number of portable MP3 playback machines being made available to consumers.

Two particular aspects of MP3 concern the majors. Firstly MP3 is a non-patented, freely available technology. The MP3 digital compression standard is part of the ISO standards for Motion Picture and Audio compression, and has been endorsed by the video and audio hardware manufacturers’ industries. MP3, which compresses audio into the smallest possible bandwidth in digital form by removing inaudible information, can achieve a compression ratio of up to 12:1 without perceivable loss in stereo sound quality.

Whereas a three to four minute-long CD audio track requires about 40Mb of disc storage capacity, an MP3 file of the same track would use just 3.75Mb of data. This greatly reduces the time it takes to download sound files.

Secondly, MP3 technology is very flexible. It can be used to compress music from CDs and make that music available on the Internet. An MP3 audio file can be downloaded from the Internet and stored on hard drive or CD-R, assuming a powerful enough computer, or transferred to a chip on one of the new portable MP3 players.

Moreover, using a computer CD-drive, music on a traditional CD can be encoded into MP3 and then transferred to an MP3 player and listened to with virtually no loss in sound quality.

Industry bodies, including the US and Japanese record industry trade associations, the RIAA and RIAJ respectively, have warned a number of websites that they are infringing copyright by storing and offering unauthorized MP3 files for download. RIAA and RIAJ are also examining the legality of portable MP3 playback devices.

However, despite the increase of MP3 anti-piracy activity, which has led to the closure of hundreds of sites offering unauthorized MP3 files over the last 12 months in the US, the number of such sites is still thought to be growing. The RIAA also runs a copyright education campaign aimed at college students, who are seen as primary users of MP3 technology.

Authorized provider and record company MP3. Com claims that major record companies regularly stop their artists from releasing material in MP3. None of the majors has so far released a recording, for sale or promotional purposes, in MP3 format.

Last month, MP3. Com launched a system, Digital Automatic Music (DAM), under which artists can market and sell their music as MP3 files and receive 50% of the proceeds. Signing up for DAM does not involve fees or administration costs and MP3. com will not claim ownership of the recordings.

The company says several dozen bands have signed up so far. MP3. Com is responsible for the marketing and distribution. The website claims that 2m visitors each month access its database of thousands of free downloadable tracks. There are also several non-MP3 music artist sites, from which music can be downloaded using software such as RealAudio or Liquid Audio.

A look at the potential SEO implications of the new Google browser Chrome.
With Google releasing their new web browser Chrome, many SEO experts as well as webmasters are wondering what effects this will have on the current SERPS rankings as well as how they can utilize Chrome to increase their traffic.

First let’s see what is so great about Chrome to begin with.

As detailed in the comic Google released, the Chrome browser is based on a new JavaScript virtual machine called V8 developed by Google engineers in Denmark. V8 interprets Java code and compiles it directly to the machine language of the CPU, presumably an X86 processor.

V8 supports “hidden class transactions” to better group and manage objects. It has improved garbage collection that can make a round trip of memory in “a few milliseconds.”

This will essentially cause your CPU to use more memory upfront but will save you in the long run by preventing memory fragmentation which can be a common problem in other browsers. Each tab will be running its own processes so if one tab is hanging up executing a piece of JavaScript, your other tabs will be unaffected so you can continue browsing in your other tabs.

Under this architecture plug-ins will also have their own processes. As plug-ins and pages start “acting up” you will now be able to track down the problem individually and cancel the specific process without having to close the entire browser. They are aiming to make the browser load pages faster, integrate desktop applications, increase browser security and also the browser will be open source.

Google is also aiming to clean up the GUI by maximizing how the features and tools are displayed. Many of the more complex feature are covered in the comic if you prefer a more in depth description of Chrome.

The main question still remains, how can I maximize my SEO efforts with Chrome?

Well first of all make sure that your meta descriptions are the best that they can be. Keep them concise and to the point while making sure your target keyword is included. Chrome will pull meta data from sites that your frequent as well as from the Google SERPS, as you type into the address bar which Chrome refers to as the Omnibox. If your meta description is strong enough you may be suggested as a site to visit as a user types a term into the Omnibox. Once someone views your site, you will be stored in Chrome and referenced in the Omnibox as users type in certain terms, generating hits to your site. Essentially if your site ranks for terms, Chrome will suggest them to the user.

To use an example from the Google comic, if you frequent CNN, you can simply hit c + return and you will be brought directly to CNN.com, never cnn.com/stories/usa/election.html. The benefit of this is that if a user finds a specific blog post or page deep within your site and uses the Omnibox or shortcut to return, they will be brought back to the main page, opening up the opportunity for them to view more pages on your site.

If you do not have a search option on your site you should implement one now. To use amazon as an example if you were to search for a specific book on amazon, not only is the search stored in Chrome but the search function can now be directly accessed via the Omnibox. By simply typing “search: amazon [tab] search term” Chrome will search amazon specifically for that term and relay you the results. To a user who has visited your site in the past this opens up a window of opportunity for them to now return to your site by doing a simple search for their topic thus increasing your return visitors.

Making sure that your site incorporates basic SEO tactics is a must for any site. Being well prepared for the new additions and streamlined features can give you a great head start over your competition as more and more people switch over to Google Chrome.

Convergence of technology isn’t perfect and it has its share of drawbacks. Anyone that’s ever purchased a TV with a built in DVD player knows the frustration of complete replacement when one component or the other fails. In our fast paced world where we’re constantly searching for ways to simplify out lives, utilizing converging technology has become a whole lot less like a good idea and a whole lot more like a must. So it should come as no surprise that mobile phones are starting to include some camera capabilities that rival those that most consumers purchase separately. So it goes with the LG KU990, LG’s newcomer that is entering the high-technology camera phone market to the tune of rave reviews and raving fans!

And no wonder! Featuring an incredible resolution for a camera phone, you’ll be hard put to fully utilize the 5.1 mega pixels at your disposal with this phone.

The phone itself features an understated designed that’s cool, sleek and sexy. It’s not often that camera phones strike such a nice balance between form and function. The phone is relatively light without feeling or looking cheap, which has been a weakness of some LG phones in the past.

Video can be shot as high as 120 frames per second (fps) in Quarter Video Graphics Array (QVGA) that captures the video in a 240 x 320 resolution. Shooting at 120 fps allows you to watch your videos in slow motion, a feature we here just can’t seem to get enough of. Fascinating is not the word for it; we think the word is more like addicting! It’s your own personal instant replay for those all important live sporting events, like the kid’s soccer games.

If you prefer to capture video in a higher resolution you can strop down the fps and use VGA at 30 fps with a maximum 640 x 480 resolution.

Ready to share your new video with the world? The KU990 Viewty even supports direct upload to the popular video sharing site YouTube. Imagine how cool it would be if Grandma and Grandpa could watch footage of their favorite grandchild almost immediately after an important play in the game. This feature can be a great way to include people in any important event, whether it’s personal or business.

The front facing camera makes it super easy to use the phone for video calling or video conferencing. You can also use the front facing camera to just as easily shoot still photos of yourself.

One of the few drawbacks we found was the unfortunate lack of a lens cover; with even normal use the lens is sure to get scratched.

The camera uses xenon flash which is known for its brightness, so called because of the xenon gas that it uses. Although it may not be as bright as a standalone camera’s flash, the xenon flash is nonetheless a big improvement over an LED (Light Emitting Diode) photo light.

There’s also a digital stabilization feature which will reduce blur, just not at the same quality an optical stabilization would. You do have control, though, over such things as the size of the images, the picture quality, the ISO and white balance, as well as other things.

We do love the built in photo viewer which allows you to display thumbnails of the pictures as if they were scattered across a table, but we did find that viewing them individually can be a bit draggy at times.

All in all, this camera is solid enough to have earned the rave reviews its getting and it definitely gets a thumbs up from us.

Distance learning has been around for several years now. Many students have taken their entire education through distance learning and even more people have been through shorter education or single courses this way. Since the internet came around in the early and mid nineties, this kind of learning has become more and more synonymous with online learning. Any education no matter in which way you are taken it, cost money. This kind of learning is no exception. And with this comes the question all students are forced to face; how do I finance it?

Distance learning - especially online - has in fact become the new way many people are completing or starting on their degrees in the comfort of their own homes. No matter where a person may live they can now work towards accredited degrees at major colleges and universities around the world. Even the busiest professional can find the time in their schedule to continue their education without having to worry about attending classes at fixed times that might otherwise interfere with their jobs or family life.

Distance learning has a number of degrees and areas on which you can focus your efforts. Many provide sample lesson plans online of programs that outline the coursework and learning path. Many people are pursuing degree programs through remote learning that involve technology or other science-related fields as our economy continues to move towards an information society versus a manufacturing one.

Thanks to recent changes in financial aid in the United States, up to 100% of remote e-learning can be financed through traditional financial aid packages that include a number of subsidized loan programs. This means that the barriers of distance and money have been broken down for almost every American who wishes to pursue their education and obtain a degree.

If you are interested in finding out more about what programs are available through these types of programs you can check out universities and colleges online that often promote or provide extensive information on their e-learning programs. In addition, support groups for various degree interests are spread across the Internet offering advice and resources for those wishing to get a degree in a particular field.

Technology has changed the way we live and work - and now it is changing the way we learn. The future of education is moving online to better suit the needs of an increasingly mobile, 24×7 lifestyle.

At some point, you will most likely be in a situation where you need or want to utilize an inkjet printer. You may find that you need to use a printer at work, to print out memos, presentations, or letters to clients. Perhaps you want to print out an important email that was sent by your supervisor or co-worker.

You may find that you’d benefit from owning an inkjet printer for home use. Printing out emails, signs for yard sales, and other things will be taken care of. Some printer users have a saved document of their grocery list so that they don’t have to create a new list each time; they simply print out their saved list and go! You’ll be able to print in color and at a low volume.

There are many advantages to owning an inkjet printer. Following are five of these very diverse advantages.

1. The quietness of inkjet printers will show impact dot matrix and daisywheel printers to shame.

Along with the low noise level, inkjet printers can print in much more details, leading to a sharp, smooth print that exceeds photographic quality. Some inkjet users purchase photo paper and use their printers to print photos for their family and friends.

2. Inkjet printers are much less expensive than thermal wax, laser, and dye sublimation printers. On top of that, inkjets can warm up in practically no time. Also, if you do the math, you’ll find that your cost per page is much less than that of other types of technologies.

3. The photographic quality that inkjet printers yield is out of this world. This is mainly due to the use of stochastic or FM screening. Some inkjets that are on the market print droplets of many different sizes, meaning that the image is even sharper and higher quality.

4. Some inkjet printers can be used with monochrome inks. These monochrome inks allow the printer to provide the same sort of color ranges (warm, cold or neutral) as the silver-based papers that are typically used with black and white photography.

If you decide to utilize monochrome inks, just make sure that you flush out the old ink when switching between the two different ink sets. You can do this with a cleaning cartridge.

5. Another advantage to inkjet printers is that the ink cartridges can be refilled. Many ink companies offer bulk systems that allows you to use a larger amount of ink with your printer at a time, thus saving money and time. These systems come with refillable bags or exterior cartridges.

here are a list of geothermal companies that are from all over the world such as Mitsubishi, Enel Green Power, Geoscience, Eco Systems Ireland Ltd., Enerflo Geothermal Technologies, Geothermex, One Source Energy Inc., PB Power, Sky Power Systems, and many many more. They all specialize in many different things, such as solar power, renewable energy, geothermal consulting, etc.

So what is geothermal power anyway? Geothermal power is energy generated by the Earth’s heat that is stored underground. They process this energy in geothermal plants throughout the world. Homes can also use geothermal climate control, allowing the home to be heated in the winter and cooled in the summer while using far less power than traditional methods.

A geothermal climate controlled home generally works by circulating a liquid throughout the house and underground. In the winter, the liquid absorbs heat from underground and disperses it into the home as it circulates above ground. During the summer months, the opposite occurs as the liquid absorbs heat from the home and disperses the heat into the ground.

There are many advantages to this kind of energy. Heat energy requires no fuel to purchase. Geothermal plants work twenty-four hours a day making it a very competitive company.

But there are also disadvantages to geothermal heat energy. Geothermal fluid is extremely corrosive. By extracting geothermal fluids it is feared that it will make the land unstable in the surrounding areas of the power plant. Hot water from the geothermal steam can also be dangerous if it makes its way into underground drinking water because it contains mercury, lead, and arsenic.

Geothermal plants are popping up all over the world such as Africa, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Iceland, Russia, Portugal, and many other countries. Hundreds of thousands of homes in the U.S. use geothermal climate control.

Geothermal energy is expected to produce enough energy to provide us with a power source for thousands of years, which could help save us money in years to come because geothermal energy is quite efficient.

How Geothermal Power Came to Be

Geothermal energy wasn’t used for power until the twentieth century. A man from Italy tested the first geothermal generator in the early 1900’s, which lit up four light bulbs. Seven years later in the same location, they built the world’s first geothermal power plant.

A few years later the United States caught on to the idea and built their first geothermal power plant at the Geysers resort. The plant was able to generate enough power to run the whole resort.

There are so many ways to produce energy to make electricity, and some are more expensive than others. But if you do your research you will find out about what energy plants are better for our environment and which ones are more efficient.

The new happening thing in the web world is Web 2.0. You must have wracked your brain as to how it works? What is it? Where is it and going?

So do you feel that it is some highly technologically advance software program making a debut at the web world.

Let’s just see how web 2.0 is nothing more than a simple tool that works to make the internet more users friendly.

Web 2.0 consist of AJAX, social book marking, RSS feed, tags and blogs. This will not give you the whole idea. Let’s see some further aspects. Web 2.0 helps with media related activities, graphic intensive websites and constantly work on easing the entire web world. It also helps us experience the technology without even knowing it.

When Web 1.0 existed it was the old age of the internet. It was not attractive. Web 2.0 helps us regular updates unlike web 1.0.

It’s important to compare some difference as this would enable you to understand better.

In case of web 1.0 if you had to look up for something you had to do something similar to an online dictionary. You had a limited access to a definition but now with web 2.0 you have a wide study available with the help of wikipedia.

Wikipedia provides you with in depth study updated by the users.

Blogging is a new rave in the web 2.0. They help both personal n business purposes.

With web 2.0 the traffic can be calculated by cost per click .the amount one pays determines the traffic.

On web 2.0, RSS feed automatically updates you with news and delivers it directly.

Tagging is also a web 2.0 technology. Tags allow search more specific. Book marking websites helps in identifying tags.

Web 2.0 has made internet a much easier place to shop play and work. The future of internet lies in web 3.0. Though it is unpredictable, however there are certain standard paths that may lead us to the right direction. The problem with its prediction is that there are too many possibilities.

Some think that the internet will have its own artificial intelligence and some think that the graphic would become more advance.

There might be more web applications which would be modular and above all the speed will increase.

It will bring on innovation that would help to bring about application. These would be smaller and have the ability to run on multiple devices. Some believe that the internet will become three dimensional. There are many idea that are taken into consideration while talking about the change that will be brought about with web 3.0.

Let’s talk on a relative term i.e. to say that a web of any new version would become smarter than the previous version, more interactive and easier to use. With each passing year these things would develop.

Internet has been a magnum opus since its birth and with each passing age it would be greater and bigger. Given the fact that Internet has immense potentials, there will inevitably be further growth and development.

Mobile phones have invaded our lives and have made their own unique stand. They have enabled us to even watch television apart from the basic functions of making calls and sending texts. Latest innovation with handsets is that it can be used for shopping also. Shopping through mobile phones to buys things like train tickets and other items are very common in Japan, but the trend is yet new in many other countries. The skyrocketing trend in Japan at present is the integration of websites with magazines, and television programmes. “Polo Ralph Lauren” the renowned retailer has launched a new mobile e-commerce site which enables consumers to shop around, and buy products through their mobile phones. Through this cutting edge shopping method, consumers can shop from anywhere and at anytime. This is a far more advanced level than the present computer based e-commerce.

Polo Ralph Lauren is the first luxury retailer to launch a mobile shopping site. This is a new way to choose clothing in a user-friendly and high tech manner. 2D bar codes will be used under this method, which will direct the customers to Ralph Lauren’s mobile website. Special codes in print ads, store windows, and mailings will be placed by the company. Consumers will have to download special software to their camera phones that will scan the codes and direct it to a phone friendly version of with website of Ralph Lauren. The 2D codes hold a large volume of information like URL’s, which can be detected by the user’s phone software and will automatically connect the user to the portal. Just by holding the phone over the given symbol or photographing it, the user can get connected with a specific internet portal.

Apart from shopping, customers can also read the company’s content, magazines and watch exclusive videos as well. Efforts are also being made to sell mobiles in the market within a year with pre-installed bar code readers. Consumers can also get mobile alerts on their handsets. Mobile users who do not have the code reader or a camera can visit a nearby mobile site to access the tool or for software download. Now, with mobile shopping, quickness in looking through the racks and getting for another designer sale is not the concern. Getting a latest cell phone with browsing capabilities, and downloading the right software to read the bar codes, and speed of the user’s fingers to browse through the latest items have become more important. This trend is currently spreading throughout Europe, and is expected by industry experts to make its way from Asia to the US.

M-commerce is a boon to the tech savvy shopping aficionados. When phones with preinstalled code readers are introduced in the market, this system of shopping will become more prevalent in the near future. This technology offers more potential as it will be an untapped market for the retailers. It brings not only the shopping experience, but also videos, and magazine contents; all in the palms of the consumers hand.
